Facebook Community Pages for Businesses
Just figured out a very confusing facet of Facebook for businesses - the Community Page.
Between Fan pages, Place pages, Community pages, and profile pages, navigating Facebook’s business options can be a nightmare. That’s right - you’re not alone.
Turns out that whenever someone enters their workplace into Facebook and a place page doesn’t exist, Facebook helpfully creates one. This is a Community Page. I believe FB does the same thing for schools and other places.
So, if you have recently created a Place page for your business and you are wondering why your Community page is showing up in search instead, this is why. Chances are someone already put the name in a profile, and FB dreamed up the page.
In fact, your personal information may also be pointing to this Community Page.
If this is the fact, you can actually change things. Go into your profile and delete the entry for your business in your work history. Then, re-enter it, and you can choose your new Place page instead.
I did this, and it seemed to improve the search results.
